Frequently Asked Questions: Parking Kiosk

Expand All FAQs | Collapse All FAQs

1. Why was the parking kiosk installed in the 22 S. Whiteoak Street municipal lot?
The municipal lot was transitioned to metered parking to promote availability of spaces in the short term, while simultaneously providing a convenient location where someone can park for a longer term if they wish. The lot and surrounding streets have long been limited to two-hour parking. After having received numerous complaints from business owners, visitors, and residents, over the years, that they or their customers couldn’t find a space to park or had received a parking violation for being parked too long, it was determined that the Borough should make a change to address these concerns and that the use of metered parking was the best way to accomplish this.
2. What are the hours of operation?
Monday through Saturday, 8am until 6pm, except holidays.
3. What holidays are exempt?
Exempt holidays include all Borough holidays (New Years Day, Presidents’ Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day), with the addition of the Federal/Bank holidays of Columbus Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
4. How much does it cost to park?
Vehicle owner must put license plate number into meter; the first hour (sixty minutes) is FREE, and parking is 25¢ per 15 minutes thereafter (no refunds or change will be given).
5. Is there a limit for how long I can park?
No.
6. What type of payment is accepted?
Quarters, $1 and $2 coins, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are accepted.
7. What if I’m only planning to park for a few minutes?
All vehicle owners who park in the lot, regardless of length of time, must put their license plate number into the meter. The first hour (sixty minutes) is free.
8. How do I use the kiosk?
  1. Note your license plate.
  2. Go to kiosk and press keypad.
  3. Enter license plate.
  4. Select duration of time.
  5. Make payment.
  6. Receive receipt (not required to display on dash).
9. Do I need to put the receipt on my dashboard?
No, the receipt is only for your record.
10. Is there an app for the kiosk?
No, but you may extend your time by phone (see below).
11. How do I extend my time at the kiosk?
Return to kiosk, enter license plate, follow prompts to add time.
12. How do I extend my time by phone?
Extend by phone payments are limited to credit card transactions, and a 25¢ transaction fee applies to each purchase. Extend by phone will text you when your parking is about to expire. Please respond to the text with the number of minutes you would like to extend (“30” for 30 minutes, “60” for an hour, etc). You can only extend your parking by phone in increments of 30 minutes. You must add time prior to your current session’s expiration. If it has already expired, you will no longer be able to add time and will need to return to the meter to start a completely new session. Visit extendbyphone.com for more information.
