The Borough of Kutztown is focused on delivering clean drinking water and protecting the health of every household in our community, and we are working hard to make necessary improvements to our water system.
Starting this month, our goal is to identify the material of every service line (pipes), delivering water to the structure(s) on a property from the water main. This is required by the Environmental Protection Agency and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to comply with the Lead & Copper Rule Improvements Service Line Inventory Requirements.
Because of this requirement, the Water Department will need to visit a few hundred properties in town to vacuum excavate a four-inch hole near the curb line of the property, at the water shut off valve, to visually inspect the service line to identify the material used.
If your property is selected, you may see a white Borough Water Department truck, with a yellow vacuum trailer attached, and the water crew working at the edge of your property line at the curb. We will refill the hole and replace the sod removed to restore the property.
This process may continue through November 2027. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during our quest to comply with this requirement.
