Solar Panel Installation is allowed in the Borough of Kutztown

Interested customers are required to fill out an application and interconnection agreement, which can be obtained from the Borough’s Electric Superintendent.

All construction and electrical permits need to be obtained from the Borough’s Community Development Office.

The Borough allows a 10 KW size limit, for residential customers, and a 50 KW size limit for commercial customers, unless the customer’s prior years’ electric usage is less than those amounts. In this case, a calculated system size limit is provided for the customer by the Borough, and this is the maximum size of system allowed. When the system is constructed, and passes Borough inspections, a certificate of completion must be sent to the Borough’s Electric Department. A bi-directional electric meter, that meters electric flows in both directions, is then installed.

Lastly, the customer is given permission to operate their system. The Borough credits back all KWHs that are received back from the customer at the rate of $.04061, per KWH, on their monthly bill.

If you have any questions, please contact a Borough representative at 610-683-6131.
