About the Department
The Borough of Kutztown Water Department is staffed by a team of professional certified operators dedicated to providing our community with a dependable supply of quality water.
Congratulations to the Kutztown Water Department!
MARCH 24, 2025 The Department has once again received a Commendable Rating from DEP for their Filter Plant Performance Evaluation. We have received this rating consecutively since 2004, which is 21 years! Only 45 water treatment plants in PA have received a commendable rating, and very few have received such a rating for consecutive years.
The Department also received its 13th consecutive AWOP Award (Area Wide Optimization Program). Congratulations to Troy Smith, Water Plant Manager, and his department on receiving this award.
Notice of Mandatory Water Conservation (November 13, 2024 Update)
Due to a lack of precipitation over the last few months, the Borough of Kutztown Water Department is issuing a Mandatory Conservation Notice for the Borough of Kutztown and Kutztown Municipal Authority service areas. A mandatory 10% -15% water use restriction is required at this time, and the following are prohibited: watering of lawns and outdoor areas; watering golf courses; washing vehicles, paved surfaces or other outdoor areas; filling or topping off pools; or any act of wasting water.

2022 Lead Sampling Results
The Borough of Kutztown Water Department recently completed its required triennial lead sampling, and we are happy to report that the results were below the required EPA action level of 15 parts per billion. We asked 30 customers, within our service area to take samples, and 30 out of the 30 samples came back within a range of 0 ppb – 9 ppb. This puts us in the 100th percentile, and we are required to be over 90%. This round of sampling showed lower lead results than three years ago due to new treatment processes at the Water Treatment Plant. We would like to thank all of the customers who participated in this round of sampling. www.epa.gov/lead, call the National Lead Information Center at 800-424-LEAD, or contact your health care provider.
